Avoid Managed Service Provider Myths

You should never waken a sleepwalker. Bulls go crazy when they see red. You can see the Great Wall of China from space. Right. And, Albert Einstein failed at math. NONE ARE TRUE. All are popular myths.

Myths pervade our culture, our language, our thinking, and even our businesses. It's unfortunate because myths prevent us from doing things we might enjoy. Myths also keep us from doing things we should do in IT. Take Managed Service Providers (MSP), for instance.

MYTH 1 – MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS CHARGE A TON OF MONEY

NOT TRUE. According to some studies, managed IT services can bring a ROI of 40%, a significant cost savings. How can MSPs, like Vology, actually SAVE YOU MONEY? MSPs contract at locked-in (often negotiated) rates. They do not charge typical overhead costs associated with additional employees, such as employee benefits, and they do not typically charge additional software, hardware, and/or maintenance costs. This, of course, allows you to not just stay in budget, but to stay well below budget.

MYTH 2 – MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS STEAL JOBS

NOT TRUE. MSPs actually EXPAND your employee base. At Vology, our more than 400 employees, 50% of whom are in technical roles, become an extension of your IT team. Our customers also have access to our nationwide network of more than 2,200 full vetted field technicians. As a result, when you use a MSP, you free up your staff to accomplish the myriad of other tasks and goals you have set for them. You become conductor of a full and talented orchestra of diverse skills. In fact, you probably acquire skills for your cost center that you’d always wished you had.

MYTH 3 – MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS CAN’T GIVE YOU HELP CENTER SERVICE

NOT TRUE. ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. How many company help desks do you think are accessible on Sunday at 9 p.m.? How about New Year’s Eve? Christmas? Heck, you may not be able to reach your own Help Desk even on Halloween! It is certain, though, you WILL reach Vology, every day of the week, 24/7. Vology's employees  know the words, “on a moment's notice” are part of the job description. If you have a problem, we’re going to fix it. Anytime. End of discussion.

Myth 4 - MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS REQUIRE HIGH MAINTENANCE

NOT TRUE. You tell an MSP what to do and the MSP does it. If it's to your satisfaction, you keep the MSP. If not, the MSP loses. Vology will become one of your closest partners, someone you can trust and rely on. With Vology, you often won't notice us; we fit seamlessly into your organization.

Myth 5 - MANAGE SERVICE PROVIDERS REQUIRE FLAWLESS INFRASTRUCTURE

NOT TRUE. MSPs ROUTINELY partner with companies that have less than ideal infrastructure. Getting it ready is part of our job. Vology has seen it all, from the best to the most atrocious. We love the challenge of working with you to create the best systems and the best most efficient environments.

Myth 6 - MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS ALL LOOK THE SAME

NOT TRUE. MSPs come in all colors, shapes, sizes, and varieties with different levels of expertise and talents. You can find the MSP that exactly fits your needs by doing a little soul-searching, research, and interviewing. Better yet, ask your colleagues; get some word of mouth. Find the MSP that understands your mission, values, and culture.

When you have needs that require serious intervention and MSP help, avoid the myths. Deal with the realities. Know the facts about MSPs and how they can help your organization. If you don’t, you may be only using 10% of your brain (MYTH) or thinking that Black Holes are really holes in space (MYTH).
